DEATH CRASHES IN MOTOR SPORT

Here you can find the worst 5 or 6 death crashes ever to have been seen in the world of motor sport. Truly quite shocking and also sad, motor sport certainly has a dark history amid all the celebrations of success. There are one or two other videos thrown in as well.

Alex Zanardi had both his legs ripped off above the knee joint in this crash in Champ Car in 2001. He lost nearly all the blood from his body but was saved due to quick thinking medics. He has since returned to other forms of Motor Racing with robotic legs.

This is probably the most shocking death crash of all time so don't watch it if you are shocked easily. During the South African grand prix of 1977, 2 marshals ran across the main straight to attend to a stricken car. However, one of the marshals was not fast enough and was literally ripped in 2 when driver Tony Pryce hit him full on at nearly 200mph. Not only was the marshal killed but Tony Pryce was nearly decapitated in the process when the fire extinguisher the marshal was carrying hit him full in the face, and  he also lost his life.

Riccardo Paletti killed during the start of the 1982 Canadian grand prix. Despite the fire, they believe he was already dead due to huge injuries sustained from driving into the rear of the stalled car at the front of the grid.

Roger Williamson is burned to death after a crash at the 1973 Dutch grand prix. Fellow driver David Purley tries in vain to save him . There are longer versions of this incident on you tube.

Gorden Smiley is called instantly during practice for an Indy car 500 race in 1982

Gilles Villeneuve was killed from this massive crash during practice for the 1982 Belgian grand prix at Zolder

My favourite race of all time was the 1994 grand prix at Adelaide in Australia where Damon Hill only had to finish in front of Michael Schumacher to win the world championship. It was 4am British time and the alarm was set. Schumacher was faster than Hill all year until the final race of the season when Hill drove like a man possessed. Schumacher went off under pressure on lap 36, but as Hill went to overtake, the dirty German rat rammed him and it all ended in tears for the English driver. Watch the ending above.

Some of you may remember the 1994 San Marino grand prix at Imola. I do. Aryton Senna's car mysteriously plunged into the concrete wall at nearly 200mph, and in the blink of an eye, the world's greatest driver was gone. His funeral was held 4 days after his crash with each of those declared official days of mourning in Brazil. His body could not be seen by anyone in public due to the extent of his head injuries from the impact, which saw a piece of metal connecting his wheel to the car, stab him through the helmet into his forehead, and even if he had of survived, doctors believe he would never have raced again due to severe brain damage. RIP Ayton Senna.
