A visit to Camden Town the night before the gig with plenty of good food and
drink consumed. The hotel was boiling hot and nearly unbearable...as was the
constant stream of traffic that saw our hotel room overlooking a god dam
motorway ! Anyway any bad thoughts or moods were soon gone the moment you realised why
you were there in the first place...to see the greatest live act ever !! On day of the gig it was off to Wembley for breakfast in a nice greasy spoon
cafe where Bad Boy Bennetts and crew joined our already strong group of 8 that
had made the monster trip from the lower reaches of Cornwall.. The queuing for
the gig began at 11.45am and the doors did not open til 4.10pm !! We were 28th in the queue which was good considering Wembley stadium holds
nearly 100,000 and our early arrival paid off as we got as close to the front as
you would want to go, just behind the barriers. After another 2 hours of waiting on our feet sipping only water, in fear of a
piss being required and losing the space we had queued so long for. THE ANSWER
played a half hour set from 6 til about 6.35pm and got the crowd nicely warmed
up with some kick ass songs. Next up were the Subways who replaced Thin Lizzy who dropped out a week
before the show due to drummer Tommy Aldridge breaking his collar bone.
Obviously no other drummer in the whole world can fill in which seemed bizarre
and so Subways took to the stage for a few songs. However after 30 minutes the crowd were ready for the band they had all come
to see and with each passing song, the crowd got more and more agitated.
Eventually the booing started as Subways reached an hour on the clock, far to
long for a band that would probably go down shit even at Glasto and suddenly the
weekend looked like being a disaster. Only one thing could save it. The opening to the Ac/dc set some 30 minutes
after Subways had finally pissed off and gone home. And that first riff of Rock
n Roll Train by Angus was enough to send stood still bodies some 10 feet into
the air as the mosh pit rocked and swayed like fury. People disappeared in the
chaos never to be seen again along with expensive cameras and peoples coats
which were ripped to shreds. Some bloke saw his glasses smashed off and lost
forever in front of my very own eyes. Little girls in the crowd had to escape for their lives........as did huge
men who would kill you in a one to one brawl at a pub but didn't last 1 song at
this gig before leaping over the barrier to escape or retreat to the back of the
stadium with the wimps. Even Bad Boy Bennetts lost his shoe and was thrown from
the crowd and retreated to the bar to recover briefly. The crowd was relentless as the pit continued to be as crazy and wild nearly
throughout the whole gig. Ac/dc themselves were outstanding and to think Brian
Johnson is 61 and Angus 53 years old it is even more remarkable. Angus going
wild for 15 minutes during Let There Be Rock was many peoples highlight of the
show. All the wankers seeing Take That the following evening take note of proper
talent right here. By the end, people were blown away and couldn't believe it was all over but
god was it worth it! We all had the time of our lives and would all do it again
next week if they played there again. For those about to rock...we salute you
all!!! Here's some of the pics taken of the trip......
Watch the opening to the wembley gig here above. We are all on the left side next to the runway as you look at the stage about 5 or 6 rows from the front...right in the mix.. Awesome !!!
