FORECAST COMMENTS

4/6 Ricko Barker Wont get a better chance to win with many key rivals missing. Loves the track, considers Mark Stocks his main threat
7/2 Steven Dash If it's dry, Dashy should be certain top 3 material. His lightweight will be a big advantage to him around Menheniot
4/1 Mark Stocks Beat Dash and Rick in the wet at St Eval latest but he wont find it so easy here
5/1 Gary Stocks Dark horse Gary is always near the front and he should be challenging up there again
11/1 Ben Harrison Seems to get faster each time he races here and he has the speed to make the final
20/1 Bear Barker Birthday boy struggled here in early heats last year until the final heat. If he pushes he could make the final 6
20/1  Chris Meaney Poor here last year but good in 2006. Top 3 in a weak practice event latest. Must go faster to claim honours
20/1 Jason Hoare Been before and wasnt too far behind. Jason has the ability to surprise but its gonna be tough out there
25/1 Michael Chantler Debut at St Eval in Dec 07 couldnt have been tougher. This circuit in the dry should suit him much better
33/1 Graham Allen  Oldest driver in the field but has a missus called Bear. He'll need all his speed to keep up with the youngsters
50/1 Matt Bennetts Very erractic and makes marshalls work for their money. Cannot win this...surely?
50/1 Ross Blatchford Had a mare on his debut here last year and could do better now he has track knowledge
66/1 Keeley Allen "Bear" is her nickname and she is looking to stop the boys winning. Also note...Keeley is a driving instructor

HEAT REVIEWS

HEAT 3

Bear Barker led for several laps and a shock victory looked on the cards until the Stocks brothers managed to get through. Bear closed them down and took a knock from one of them which sent him crashing down the pack. Gary went on to win easily, chased home by a nippy Ben Harrison. Ricko Barker, Chris Meaney and Steven Dash all moved up positions from their grid slots to give themselves good starting places for the next race grid in heat 2. Jason H and Matt B seem to be off the pace so far. Gary Stocks romped to victory again over Ben Harrison by nearly 10 seconds and those 2 were virtually guaranteed a final place. Steven Dash was flying here and just took third but Bear covered his every move and gave himself a great chance of making the final with 4th place. Matt Bennetts, Chris Meaney and Ricko Barker had a great tussle in midfield with some excellent racing but Rick came off worst and seems in trouble. Michael Chantler will be disappointed with his lowly finish in this race. Incredibly Gary Stocks won easy again and would be favourite for the final. Steve Dash managed to nip ahead of Ben for 2nd although it would not affect the championship standings. Bear again finished right with them and seemed to be held up by them both but couldn't get past. Ricko was the fastest on track apart from Gary in this final heat and he was closing on the leaders with every lap once he'd cleared Mark Stocks. Chris Meaney's and Ross Blatchford's poor 3rd heat put paid to their chances of making the grand final.

HEAT COMMENTS

1 Gary Stocks 39 Breezed into the final winning all three heats by a street. Impressive
2 Ben Harrison 35 Never out of the first 3 all day and deserves his place in the final
3 Steven Dash 31 Poor in qualifying but improved all day and looks strong
4 Mark Stocks 28 Started well but slipping down the pecking order as the races went on
5 Bear Barker 26 Took awesome pole position and dark horse in the final after good drives
6 Ricko Barker 25 The favourite needed a super fast heat 3 to make final and just scraped in
7 Chris Meaney 22 3 points shy of missing the final. Unlucky after good drives
8 Matt Bennetts 18 Should have been deducted points for ramming. Had some good tussles in the midfield
9 Michael Chantler 17 Needed a better heat 2 after fast start and misses out on final
10 Ross Blatchford 14 Good in qualifying and was unlucky not to get more points
11 Jason Hoare 9 A nice Sunday afternoon drive for Beavis. Much more competitive in the final heat
12 Graham Allen 6 Oldest driver in the race seemed to enjoy the racing...and the pint afterwards
13 Keeley Allen 3 The driving instructor will be glad to get back to the main road

OVERVIEW

You have to remember how Rick Barker dominated the heats last year winning all three with ease before being disqualified and put into last place in the grand final. Well Gary Stocks had pretty much the same thing happen here this time. He won all the heats and by some way as well, before going into the final as a massive odds on shot to win. However pressure can be a funny thing and Gary must have let it get to him and he spun off during the final and lost enough time to leave him miles out the back and his race gone. He'll be kicking himself for weeks for that mistake.

Take nothing away from eventual winner Ben Harrison though who drove right up at the front all day and didn't put a wheel out of place. Not many people thought he would even make the final let alone win it so top marks to him. Steven Dash chased him home and if not for his poor grid slot he could have done even better perhaps? His lightweight was certainly a help, but of the finalists the Barker brothers were without doubt [ apart from Gary Stocks ] the quickest on the track all day. Rick, Bear and Gary were the 3 fastest drivers in every heat [ looking at the time sheets ] . Bear was on fire all day and after taking pole position at odds of 100/1 he kept it up.

Bear had the pace today but if he can improve his overtaking then he is a real danger in future. He could have won heat 1, gained 4 places in heat 2 and was held up behind Dash and Ben in heat 3 before finishing out of the trophies in the final by only half a second. Rick, the favourite after his crazy speed here last year, got caught in too many midfield battles after a poor qualifying, but set some of the fastest laps when he did get some open track. Had a great start in the final and if avoiding a bump with leader Ben that knocked him back to 4th, had the pace to win with Gary Stocks already spun out and way back.

Mark Stocks had a good go today but found his weight did eventually slow him up too much. His hope for rain didn't materialise as the sun shone brightly and the track couldn't have been drier. His good qualifying position kept him near the front during all the heats and he held his own to make the final, where he had to do some good blocking to hold off the charging Barker brothers near the end. He'll be happy to finish 3rd just like he did at St Eval back in December and get another trophy. Nice one Flopp.

Chris Meaney improved on his recent form and just missed out on the final. Matt Bennetts, Michael Chantler and Ross Blatchford all drove better races than last year so don't write them off in future. Jason Hoare was struggling around here and might be better suited to the St Eval track which is much longer and more of a test. Graham and Keeley Allen werent there to win but enjoyed it nonetheless. Cheers everyone...until next time.
