HEAT 3

After a dry qualifying which saw Dash and Ricko on the front row, closely followed by Ross Blatchford and Craig Stocks, the heavens opened just as the grid lined up for the race. Off the line, Dash and Ricko scampered into the distance with only a charging Mark Stocks from 8th on the grid [ had to change kart after qualifying ] on any kind of hot pace. Dash won a shade cosily in the end while there was a good drive from Matt Bennetts in the midfield who came from near last on the grid to hold off a train of karts behind him to grab 7th. Tiddlytuddly in his debut race came 17th losing an average of  12 seconds a lap to the race winner, Steve Dash! The track was soaking for heat 2 and Dash and Ricko again went off like rockets into the distance. Mark Stocks couldn't go with the leaders but Ross Blatchford suddenly found another gear to cruise up to the back of Ricko by the end of the race. The front 4 were well clear of the remainder led by Nathan Mansfield who came under pressure from a storming drive in this heat from Kevin Triggs [son of Andrew aka Tiddlytuddly] . Matt Bennetts slipped down the field while Olly Preston caught the eye in 10th with a much improved performance on a real greasy track. Tiddlytuddly was last again but  was a lot closer to the rest of the field in heat 2! This time Ross did Ricko off the line and Ricko spun out on turn 3 with Nathan Mansfield and both ended up in 16th / 17th. Ross followed Dashes every move up front. Danny Mellor had a nightmare 3rd heat, crashing everywhere, including a huge smash with Richard Pursall that nearly saw Richard thrown from his kart ! Bear Barkers good 7th place was not good enough. Nick Blatchford and Kevin Triggs did much better in this final heat while Ricko battled back from l7th to 9th after his early spin.  Mansfield got back to 10th. Ross Blatchford pipped Dash for the victory right near the end after back markers got in the way. Tiddlytuddly did not finish last this time around!

HEAT COMMENTS

1 Steve Dash 50 Won first 2 heats and looked stronger than ever all day
2 Ross Blatchford 46 These conditions suit him perfectly and snatched victory in heat 3
3 Mark Stocks 43 Not quite on top form but extremely dangerous starting from 3rd in the final
4 Ricko Barker 41 2nd in both the first 2 heats but poor mistake in heat 3. Under Pressure.
5 Craig Stocks 39 Consistent all day so far apart from blip in heat 2. Nothing to lose
6 Nathan Mansfield 33 Sneaks into the final by the narrowest of margins, could be outpaced
7 Kevin Triggs 32 Off pace in heat 1 but some great drives in last 2 heats and misses out on final by a single point!
8= Bear Barker 28 He hated the wet and was already in deep trouble after a poor qualifying
8= Matt Bennetts 28 Good performance from the bad boy...he's getting better all the time
8= Nick Blatchford 28 Level with Bear and Bennetts and not far off reaching the final
11 Nick Johns 24 Did all he could from the midfield but wasn't a fan of the slippery track
12 Olly Preston 21 Miles better this time and he was quickest on the track apart from the top 6
13 Jake Williams 14 Seemed to struggle with other drivers bumping him but his last heat was much better
14= Danny Mellor 10 Very poor from Danny who was flying off the track with consummate ease causing mayhem
14= Richard Pursall 10 Took the full brunt of Danny Mellors recklessness but had some great battles
16 Chris Robins 7 Would prefer it dry next time and got stacked off the track and through the trees by Bennetts
17 Andrew Triggs 5 Expected to be off the pace on his debut....but he loved it and will be back for more chaos soon

FINAL COMMENTS

1 Steven Dash 00.00 4/1 Dominated pretty much all day and got a long deserved winners medal
2 Craig Stocks 3.86 6/1  Started 5th in final and did really well to finish 2nd. What a drive !
3 Ricko Barker 4.22 9/2 Really fast on the drying track and right with Craig at the end. Good performance in the end
4 Mark Stocks 5.24  2/1F Couldn't live with the front 3 despite starting ahead of Craig and Ricko. He'll be disappointed
5 Nathan Mansfield 9.80 12/1 Always behind and was just off the leaders pace but did well to come 5th overall
6 Ross Blatchford 18.39 14/1 Will be gutted after such a great day. A mistake of his own making finished him off mid race

OVERVIEW

Steve Dash was 2nd here last year, and his kart blew up when leading comfortably at St Eval last time, so some would say justice has now been done. Dash put his kart on pole and despite some early pressure from Ricko in heat 1, and a late move from Ross Blatchford to pinch the win in heat 3, he never really had much trouble, apart from taking his machine around the greasy track.

Favourite Mark ' Flopp ' Stocks didn't produce his usual killer drive and was found wanting several times during the afternoon, despite some very quick laps. He struggled to make an impact in the final, but will be licking his lips at a return to St Eval later in 2009...his best track no doubt.

Craig Stocks will be a big danger in future if he keeps racing like that, and eye catching drives were noted from Kevin Triggs, and especially Olly Preston who if he had done better in qualifying, then could have got lots more points.

Even those at the back of the pack had a great time fighting [ for track position that is! ] on the wet track. It certainly spiced things up. Thanks to all the drivers who turned up. New grand prix at St Eval coming soon. I have spoken to them and they said once the holiday season is over then they can get us on to the whole track for a 30 lap grand prix.  Looking at October for the next one but will announce this sometime during September. Until then....all the best.  If you want to contact me about anything it's Rickstick23@aol.com or join the CHAT FORUM on this site where we chat about the karting races and other events etc...thanks.

Steven Dash wins at Menheniot 2009  Thanks to all the racers for making it a great day
