HOOPS TRASHES RECORD AS CHAMP AND FAVOURITE FALTER [15.5.11]

REVIEW 2011

Neil Hoops Slaughter won the 10th anniversary Cadburys Creme egg eating competition amid amazing scenes at Lytton Place near Mountcharles on Sunday afternoon.

The 5 hopefuls of Gavin Kitts, Ricko Barker, Nick Hill, Dan Bray and Hoops went head to head in the first competition since the jibbing Joanne Philp hosted the last contest during Easter 2007.

The weather was fine and the outdoor setting was perfect with Gavin and Dan Bray having home advantage [ if that really made a difference ? ] and things got under way at 1pm on the dot as arranged.

Hoops immediately chomped down his first egg along with Nick and Dan to get the comp off to the quickest of starts.

The first 10 minutes saw Hoops pull off into an easy looking advantage as he stuck away an egg a minute to lead with 10.

Gavin was on 7 , Ricko and Nick on 5 and Dan Bray on 4.

Claire England and Becky Millichap were on hand to oversee proceedings as the comp shifted towards the half way point where Hoops began to apply the pressure.

He was already up to 16 eggs at the half way stage of 30 minutes [ with Sean Haley's 14 eggs in 9 minutes in 2007 very much on his mind ] while the rest of the field took a more sensible approach.

Dan Bray propped up the field on 8 at the half way point while Ricko had pulled into 2nd place with 12, Gavin  and Nick on 11 a piece in joint 3rd.

The only hope for the rest of the field was that Hoops had gone off too fast. [ just like Sean Haley all those years before !!! ]

As the comp neared the remaining 15 minutes, Ricko had emerged as the only possible challenger to Hoops as he hit 16 eggs, but Hoops calmly swallowed a few more to not only surpass Ricko's 2007 record of 19, but set a new record of 20 eggs !!!

Gavin was showing signs of distress on the opposite side of the table as he struggled to eat egg number 13, while Nick Hill decided to eat egg 14 while walking around the garden before spending 5 minutes bouncing up and down on a trampoline. [ to the roars of laughter from the other competitors ]

Dan was very happy at this stage to reach his intended target of double figures.

With the clock finally ticking down [ and Becky doing the water re fill run for most of the competitors ] , and Gavin's dad coming to check on all the belching noises coming from the garden , Ricko's challenge to Hoops and reigning title looked all but over as he painfully nibbled at a 17th egg as white as a ghost. Hoops pushed the limits even further as he ate a 21st egg and then began a 22nd one with just 4 minutes to play.

Nick put away a 15th egg to keep himself one ahead of the stuttering Gavin Kitts and Dan Bray managed to finish off an 11th egg.

As the whistle went, everyone was glad to finally have the chance to rest up and sip plenty of water while stomachs bulged tightly with a dangerously high amount of nasty calories buzzing through clogged up fondant veins.

Well done everyone for having the balls to take part...and well done to new champion Hoops, who sets an incredible brand new all time record of 22 eggs in 1 hour ! [ where are the challengers now then ?!]

THE CREME EGG COMP PREVIEW.........begins at 1pm approx

GAVIN KITTS...11/10 - Prepared to puke to win and has waited a long time for this day...
RICKO BARKER...2/1 - Has been sick twice before in the comp but has won in 2003,04,05 and 2007 with a record 19 eggs. Tough to repeat that...
HOOPS SLAUGHTER...5/2 - Scoffed 17 eggs in 2007 and claims he can push the record to the limit. Big player today...
NICK HILL...9/1 - Has apparently been practicing heavily in the last few weeks eating eggs for breakfast, dinner and middle of the night snacks, he obviously likes them...
DAN BRAY...40/1 - Just a few chocolate crumbs from a cake made him feel sick this week, but he could be the dark horse of the pack...
CLAIRE ENGLAND...1000/1 - Will make sure fresh water and sick bowls are always to hand...

Likely Late Non Runners:

SALLY DUNN...20/1 - Late commitments have forced her to pull up...
JOANNE PHILP...33/1 - The 2007 host who scoffed 14 eggs then, seems to have jibbed...

Good Luck to everyone on Sunday...can Ricko hold off the challengers or will we have a new champion ? ...and will the record of 19 continue to stand?
