Dan 'Ozzie' Osbourne became the 2nd Carpeteer to have his contract terminated within a month following Jim Martyn through the exit door. The team was rocked this week when the usually focussed and commited Carpeteer suddenly requested outrageous wage demands that he be paid to play for the side.
Frantic decisions had to be made within the boardroom and the assistants and other players alike decided he was no longer playing for the team but putting himself before it.
Chesney United are believed to be the team to require his services and are rumoured to have offered Ozzie free football each week at the cost of approx £80 a season including cup games.
Carpeteers have taken on a new goalkeeper in the form of Jason Hoare who has moved from Chesney in the other direction. He, although at first shocked by the speed of his exit from Chesney, is delighted to be joining the Carps and the whole team are pleased at his arrival. Jason was a big factor in helping Chesney reach the Premiership earlier in the year.
Steve Dash is also on Carpeteers books as a sub at present after also being dumped by Chesney Utd last season. Dash knows he will be used when the Carps are short but has already impressed in his limited appearances as a substitute.
Jim Martyn was the other Carpeteer to have his contract terminated last month.
Jim was an original member of the team but his team mates were very disappointed at his lack of interest towards the team after remaining anonymous to the sides progress for many weeks despite him being out with injury.
Only capatain Ricko Barker and top midfielder Carl Webster remain since day 1 of the Carpeteers but are now surrounded by a team of quality players which can surely take the Carps to their first Premier League title in the near future. In the meantime Ozzie and Jim must be thanked for their services to the team in the past but Carpeteers will never give in and will stay strong.
And finally...Carpeteers hope to unveil their new kit at the start of 2009. All the money that the team has been saving has nearly reached £70 now and will be used to buy brand new shirts, have names and numbers printed and new goaly Jason will even get himself a new goaly top ! Merry Xmas Carpeteers !
OCTOBER 31ST 2008 -
Carpeteers failed to qualify for the main cup for only the second time in 7 attempts since they formed in 2006 and really found form in the second biggest competition on the night...the shield. With many teams scrapping it out in the mickey mouse cups below, Carps faced a tougher shield than the higher cup comp above due to an array of upsets in the group stages. Carpeteers are renouned for slipping up in the semis as their track record of losing in 5 of their 7 cup entries at this stage testifies. However tonight, they showed true grit to reach a FINAL for the first time and faced our friends and reigning Premiership + Cup holders Chenpump [ these things are never easy ] . The penalty shoot out went against Carps and runners up was accepted as a good performance and confidence booster for the current Premiership campaign ahead.
OCTOBER 6TH 2008 -
Ricko's new GOLDEN BOOTS seem to have brought his goalscoring touch back to life. After only 1 goal in 33 games, Ricko has now put away 3 goals in 3 games after scoring with his very first touch 2 weeks ago with the new gold boots. The latest goal came in the cup with a straightforward win over Estudiantes. The goldness seems to be working a treat at present.
OCTOBER 5TH 2008 -
Craig Phillips has signed a new deal with Carpeteers after a week of turmoil in the camp. Premiership runners up for the last 3 seasons, DB's have made Craig a great offer to be there main man and Craig went into hiding for many days to re think his career. Carps caretaker manager and assistant Hoops was said to be ' distraught ' and on ' suicide watch ' as news of Craig's departure hit the headlines. However, Craig realised that he means a great deal to the team and that his team mates would be gutted to see him go. He then pledged his future to the Carpeteers. The team are delighted that he has stayed.
OCTOBER 1ST 2008 -
World class Carpeteers goalkeeper Dan 'Ozzie' Osbourne has had the last laugh, after certain weak lower third division teams who were after his signature during the latter stages of the Carpeteers first Premiership season - have FOLDED !!! Ozzie nearly walked out on the club that have given him a brilliant career and he had to chuckle to himself when he found out news that one of the sides desperate for him to sign, disbanded. This 100% confirmed that Oz had made the right choice, otherwise he would have been teamless all of a sudden. Carpeteers went on to finish strongly and finish 3rd in the Premiership.
JULY 26TH 2008 -
Much touted goalkeeper Dan 'Ozzie' Osbourne has finally put to rest the rumours of him leaving Carpeteers by putting pen to paper and signing a new contract which will see him stay with the club for at least another 2 seasons. Their were several weak division 1 clubs after his services but Oz knew that moving to a club that is going nowhere in the bottom division would have been one of the worst moves of his footballing career.
Ozzie gave his reason for staying as ' I want to play Premiership football and
there's nobody better to do that than with the Carpeteers ' . And the man himself is very right. Ozzie is without doubt one of the best keepers at Cornwall 6 a side but the team has been having a rough ride lately. Carpeteers, crowned champions of Divison 1 in winter 2007, then added a runaway title to their ranks in April 2008 by winning the Championship in amazing fashion, but they have struggled to adjust to life in the top division, and after leaking nearly 20 goals in just 5 games, their were rumours of dispute in the camp.
However Ozzie and the lads bounced back [ after he confirmed he was staying ]
with perhaps their best performance ever in a 6-0 win over 3rd placed Pulse8 who
had scored more goals than any other team in the Premier League going into the
match. If fact the team spirit in the camp couldn't be better with everyone
great friends on and off the field. Tonight everyone played heart on sleeve and
Ozzie had one of his best games ever with a brilliant clean sheet. He knows he
made the right choice..... ;) well done Ozzie.
MAY 14TH 2008 -
Carpeteers will be wearing black armbands this Friday in the cup match vs TC Saints in respect of James Silvester or better known as Chesney from Foxhole, who was killed this past weekend from a hit and run car crash. Chesney played for our fellow friends the Argonauts.
APRIL 13TH 2008 -
Carpeteers wrapped up the title with a 3-1 win over the dirtiest team in Cornwall, Green Army. Despite havin lumps kicked out of them all night and being a goal down at half time, Carps fought back like the champions they are and scored three second half goals to see off the bottom side. Craig Phillips now leads the Championship top scoring chart with 2 games still to play and Carpeteers have champange and trophies to look forward to followed by the champions party night on May 3rd !!!
APRIL 7TH 2008 -
Carpeteers gained promotion to the premiership after the 9-0 whipping of Gover this past Friday. Carps are unbeaten this season with 10 wins in 11 games and one more win in the remaining 3 games should see them win back to back titles as well.
MARCH 29TH 2008 -
Carpeteers moved 6 points clear with just 4 games to play and need just 7 points from their last 12 to 100% confirm the Championship title. 2 wins from their last 4 might well be good enough anyway if second placed Neil Truan dont win their remaining 4 games. Its looking good for back to back promotions and titles despite an injury ravaged season that has seen Ricko Barker and Gareth Geach virtually out for all of it. The other lads have done an amazing job.
MARCH 9TH 2008 -
Hoops broke his arm as Carpeteers made it a club record 8 wins in a row with a 7-0 thrashing of FC Kernow. Hoops hit the deck hard after losing his balance with his first touch of the game and then fell again moments later with his second touch after accidently standing on the ball. He is out for the season along with the injured Gareth Geach.
FEBRUARY 1ST 2008 -
Carpeteers grabbed REVENGE on Gareth Massey and his Badgers team just 2 weeks after Badgers won the cup knocking everyone out on penalties bar the final. Bizarre?! Cornwall 6 a side instantly put them as favourites for the Championship this season but Mike and Glynn seemed to have forgot that despite Badgers having some brilliant players, Gareth Massey is usually picked...and this makes them much weaker. Carpeteers took a 2-0 win over them and that was after beating Neil Truan in a great game just before. They had no rest in between and were without top striker Gareth Geach whereas Badgers were fresh. Carpeteers are now top and must surely be favourites for the title. Badgers need to look at that one team selection and they should climb the table as they play good football.
JANUARY 11TH 2008 -
For the second season running Carpeteers departed in the semi finals of the main Cornwall 6 a side cup. After being beaten by a flukey goal to Redditch in last seasons semis, this time it was a penalty shoot out that put them out having conceded just one goal in 7 cup games including the match in question which ended 0-0. Carps have still only lost once in normal time in 28 games now. The cup defeat this time was even more disappointing for them as Gareth Massey was on the oppostion team and despite having a dismal game and being too afraid to take a penalty..emerged a smelly winner. Revenge will be sweet when it comes around. Geach scored for Carps from the spot while Ricko and Webby missed their pens. Next season awaits now.
NOVEMBER 16TH 2007 -
Carpeteers win the Division 1 title, the bottom of three leagues but with 13 wins in 14 games, it is rock solid form to push for the Premiership league next season.
OCTOBER 31ST 2007 -
Carpeteers gained Promotion this week after a 2-0 win over One Team which was the 9th win in 10 games this season. The title is yet to be decided with FC Kernow still just 2 points behind with 4 games to play but the Carpz will definitley be playing championship football next season :) Well done to all of you.
AUGUST 22ND 2007 -
Carpeteers have signed goal machine and great all rounder Craig Phillips from Poltair Predators for the coming season. Craig and Ricko will be used as defenders at times to cover for the now departed Richard Golley who has moved back to Tornadoes. Craig has scored 3 goals in 3 games for Carpz in the past and will be slotting in alongside Gareth Geach upfront. Craig will give the Carpz plenty of firepower that other weak strikers who have left in the past, never gave us.
AUGUST 19TH 2007 -
Carpeteers quest to win the main cup nearly came true after a breathtaking display saw them knock out premiership new boys St Stephens 3-0. While the Carpz rivals such as Tesco and Tornadoes were trying to win the lesser cups, the Carpz were unlucky to be hit with an unlucky deflected goal that Redditch used to clamber into the final where they lost in the end. A great performance by all the Carpz to get that far.
JUNE 20TH 2007 -
Carpeteers have released LUKE STYLES from his contract after two seasons with the team. Luke has sadly not shown the enthusiasm in recent weeks like the others in this vital time for the Carpz as they battle to climb back to the Championship. Luke has failed to appear in 3 or 4 games this season due to last minute drop outs and it is best for both parties if he moves on to form his own team perhaps. We thank him for some great performances on the pitch with us though.
JUNE 18TH 2007 -
RiCko hopes to return to the action on 6th July as the Carpz continue their push for promotion in the 3rd division. He has played just once in the last 11 matches.
MAY 28TH 2007 -
Captain Rick, who has missed 5 of the 6 games so far this season, looks set to be out for the whole season with a whiplash injury. However Gareth Geach has put pen to paper for the Carps this week and has been very impressive so far including a hat trick in his very first match.
MAY 27TH 2007 -
Gareth Geach has put pen to paper for the Carps this week and has been very impressive so far including a hat trick in his very first match.
APRIL 13TH 2007 -
After finishing 3rd in our group of 6 teams, The Carps lose in the Knockouts first stage to an excellent Young Gunz side 2-0 who went on to lose in the final 5-0 !
FEBRUARY 10TH 2007 -
Dan Nicholls, currently the Carps top goalscorer, leaves to join Tornadoes.....and become a goalkeeper :o
FEBRUARY 8TH 2007 -
Richard Golley officially becomes a Carpeteer after leaving the Tornadoes
JANUARY 26TH 2007 -
Ozzie safe hands Osborne played the game of his life to get us a draw against top of the league Young Gunz. However we all put in a solid show and the draw felt like a win.
JANUARY 10TH 2007 -
James Triggs is kicked out of the team for breaking promises to the captain off the field and being sneaky and proving that he isnt a true friend after all :(
I am very sorry i wasted nearly 3 years of my life trusting him as my best friend...
NOVEMBER 17TH 2006 -
Lost in the final 2 minutes to a late goal to knock us out of the cup semi finals.
SEPTEMBER 15TH 2006 -
We start out first game as the Carpeteers [ named by Dan Nicholls with Rick as captain ] but get a bit of a lesson in our first game losing 3-0.
